Leather Storage Tips
Leather Storage Tips
Below are tips on the optimum way to store your leather:
LEATHER STORAGE TEMPERATURE:
The optimum temperature is between 50-70 degrees F
LEATHER STORAGE HUMIDITY:
The proper relative humidity (RH) levels will be between 35%-70%.
At 35% or below, leather becomes dry and can crack when handled.
At 70% or above, mold growth can occur, which will break down the structure of the leather.
MORE LEATHER STORAGE TIPS:
The leather can be safely stored for one to two years.
We recommend you do not store it in sealed plastic because leather needs breath and plastic will prohibit this.
It is important that leather is not stored in direct sunlight.
ROLLING VS LAYING FLAT:
For the majority of leather, we suggest leather be rolled grain side out (this is how we pack and ship our leather).
Storing and/or rolling the leather with the flesh side out will “board” the grain of the leather creating a look of loose grain.
Firm-tempered vegetable tanned leather should lay flat (Splenda, Walpier). Veg leather has memory and if rolled for too long, eventually it won’t lay flat
